Year's End

Here's the new fairy, or at least some of her. I haven't named her yet. She probably deserves a better name than just Rose.

Not much news from On The Wind. It was 60 degrees today, but only 20 this morning. Still haven't ordered seeds. Yet another fairy intruded, so I had to get her down on paper before she slipped away. She has a sidekick, a little man sitting on a calendula blossom blowing bubbles out of his pipe. The drawing is great, we'll see what happens when I paint. Painting is always fraught with peril and agonizing decisions. One must be bold with the brush!

Merry Christmas

"Business!" cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. "Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!"
(A Christmas Carol) Charles Dickens

Almost Christmas

4 degrees this morning and the bluebirds are drinking from the dogs' electric water bucket. Almost time to order seeds. I usually do this the week between Christmas and New Years. It's a deeply peaceful time, the Holy Nights, when the door to the spirit world is closest to us. I'm not quite ready to think of gardening, but the seeds must be ordered. Onions are started in early February in the greenhouse, likewise leeks. Today, however, is a fairy painting day. I'll post her picture when she's finished. Meanwhile, here's a couple of shots of our garden.

Pearl

We didn't get the ice storm - only a thin skim. I haven't seen another soul except husband and dogs for several days. I like that, as there are no distractions to keep me away from artwork. Soon there will be a new rose fairy to add to my collection. The picture I'm posting today is an older collage entitled "Pearl", which I had hanging in a local gallery and sold.

Today we are preparing for an ice storm that's supposed to hit tomorrow night. Filled water jugs and barrels in greenhouse, stacked fire wood on back porch, picked chinese cabbage, kale, collards and mustard, got gas for the generator, stocked up on groceries, got books at library. Hope the power doesn't go out, but if it does we'll be OK. I have plenty of projects inside.

The fairies have found their way to cafe press: http://www.cafepress.com/onthewind and are now on t-shirts, mugs, cards and tote bags. Check them out. This is a detail from my watercolor called "Contemplation".

Today is very cold with a little snow. I plan to work on another fairy painting. The Ozark fairies are very numerous and insistant on being heard. I find them in the wild flowers. The Goat's Rue devas are very tall with sinewy muscles. They have a very direct energy, are loyal, persevering and tenacious. They informed me that one reason it's important for us to build a bridge between our kingdom and theirs is that they need our (humans') help to develop their heart qualities so they can evolve, and we need each other to develop trust. They need us, we need them, though we don't even know it! The picture is a paper collage I did a few years ago.

Here are a couple of pictures of some of my collages. I decorate a lot of plain paper with combed and stippled paste (cornstarch and water cooked on the stove with acrylic paints added), watercolor, fabric paint. I use mica chips, string and silk threads, bits of abolone shell. I like to use metallic paints, then crinkle the paper for added texture.
